Summer's Eve Benefit Ritual - June 14

Yes, it's the benefit gala of the season. This is the Reclaiming event everyone will be talking about, at least until Autumn's Eve! We need plenty of help to create this ritual/dance -- drop me a line if you want to help out -- George

Witchlets in the Woods and Reclaiming Quarterly invite you to:

SUMMER'S EVE: A Ritual and Dance
Saturday, June 14, 2008 - 7pm
1924 Cedar at Bonita, Berkeley
Adults - $9-33 sliding scale
Under 18 - $2-5 with adult

Join Reclaiming community and friends for an evening of magical ritual and drum-dancing!

On Saturday, June 14, we'll honor the moment when Spring gives way to Summer, with a participatory seasonal ritual. Help us celebrate the Sun's longest days in our part of the world.

The ritual will be followed by a drum-dance party. Food and non-alcohol drinks will be available.

Families are especially welcome, and folks under 18 are just $2-5 with an adult. There will be an optional kids' circle and teens' space during part of the evening.

Summer's Eve is a benefit for Witchlets in the Woods family camp and Reclaiming Quarterly magazine.

Plenty of help is needed to produce this community event! We need help with everything from set-up to altar-creation, ritual-roles to ticket-taking.

RQ - off to the printer!

Hi folks,

I'm updating readers, subscribers, fan clubs, thrill-seekers, and the
FBI -- Reclaiming Quarterly #99 went to the printer this week. Our
theme, "Magic in the World," ranges from Earth activism to personal
practice to household magic.

For many years, RQ has been a tangible symbol of our community, a way
we can stay connected between Witchcamps, rituals, and classes. One
of the top answers readers give when we ask why they subscribe is --
"The feeling of being connected when the magazine arrives in the
mail." (Note - for folks concerned with privacy -- RQ is mailed in a
plain envelope.)

There's still time to subscribe and receive the new print issue, hot
off the presses. Below, I've copied the text of our recent letter to
subscribers, with background info and more details on the magazine.

The short version is -- in order to publish this magazine, we
urgently need the backing of people who support Reclaiming reaching
not only our own community, but also the wider, non-internet Pagan
network. If you believe in Reclaiming and our magazine, please join
me in supporting RQ now.

Subscriptions - $20 and up (low-income $10-up)
Additional donations are a great support as we re-launch RQ.
Donations are tax-deductible.

RQ's LETTER TO PAST SUBSCRIBERS – Spring 2008

Dear RQ supporter,

I’m writing with great news. After a layoff of over two years, our
magazine is coming back!

That’s right — we are working on a new 48-page print issue, which we
plan to mail to subscribers before Beltane.

Our focus is on “magic in the world” — from household spellwork to
community rituals to street activism and beyond. We’ve received a
number of great articles, ranging from Earth Activism to personal
practice with the Feri-tradition tool of the Three-Fold Heart.

In addition, the Revolutionary Pagan Workers Vanguard will be back
with another issue of in-depth investigative journalism – vital fare
in these difficult times.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a classic issue of RQ.

RQ aims to have the new issue off the press in time for the April
16-20 Dandelion Gathering. You’ll find more information on Dandelion
in the enclosed Bulletin.

In this letter, we want to update you on our plans for a new print
edition of RQ, and ask your support as we take this exciting step.

Since we ceased publishing two years ago, we have heard repeatedly –
both within Reclaiming and from our readers in the wider pagan
community – how much people counted on the magazine. Folks who don’t
like reading online, people visiting our literature table at events,
activists whose work we covered, all have asked if and when we would
resume our print issues.

It’s a question we have examined carefully, from various points of
view: finances, volunteer energy, community needs. We have wondered
whether a print edition was still the best use of our limited
resources. If we looked only at the bottom line, the answer might
well be “no.”

But RQ and Reclaiming are about much more than the bottom line. The
magazine is a resource that has helped build Reclaiming from a
loose-knit web of a half-dozen local communities to a far-flung
international network.

Our feeling – echoed by many of our subscribers and supporters – is
that a print magazine will continue to play a strong role in
building and sustaining Reclaiming.
* * *

RQ published quarterly for eight years, from 1997 to 2005. In the
early years, our subscriber list grew from about 200 to over 600.
But by the early 2000s, it leveled off. Today we stand at about 600
— a fine show of support, but not enough to sustain a quarterly
magazine.

Our current proposal is to publish less frequently, beginning with a
new issue prior to Dandelion. In addition, we aim to do at least one
benefit per year (2007’s Faerie Ball was a big success). We will
continue to sell Reclaiming CDs, with part of the net proceeds
underwriting the magazine.

And we will ask you, one of our dedicated readers, to help as well.

Our subscription format asks $20 and up for one year of quarterly
issues. We will continue to make our bottom-line subscription $20
for four issues to keep the magazine affordable to all.

We will also ask that you an additional donation if possible. Your
contribution will help maintain this important resource for all of
Reclaiming.

* * *

Our records show that your subscription to the magazine has expired.
Your support has been important to helping us publish in the past.
And it is crucial in our work to relaunch the magazine.

We want to send the new issue as soon as it comes off the press — so
we need to hear from you now.

Please join me in supporting RQ by subscribing now, for as generous
an amount as you can give. As we prepare to resume publishing, RQ
will incur many expenses. Updated equipment and software, outreach
mailings such as this Bulletin, phone, postage, internet costs – all
must come out of the same fund as our print bill.

Your subscription is a strong vote of confidence in RQ. It shows
your support for the continued publication of a print edition, and
makes that dream a reality.

Please contribute now and help us resume the vital task that was
interrupted two years ago – bringing Reclaiming to the wider world
via a print edition of RQ.

Many thanks for sustaining the magazine over the years!

Sincerely yours,

George Franklin for RQ

PS – Donations to RQ, as always, are tax-deductible through
Reclaiming, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group. Please contact us if you
have any questions regarding tax-deductible contribution

Blog-posts will be signed, and reflect the opinions of the writer, not the entire production staff.

Contact us if you have questions, want to see a back issue, want to send us money or flowers, etc.
